Message to Members of Congress to End World Hunger
Hunger results from inequality, conflict, climate change, and a broken food system—not a lack of food. Today, 281.6 million people in 59 countries and territories across the world are experiencing extreme levels of food insecurity—enough to fill Madison Square Garden in New York City more than 13,000 times over.
Yet instead of meeting this moment, President Trump illegally terminated 83% of funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), dismantling critical food, health, and humanitarian programs overnight. This unprecedented assault on USAID has left lifesaving aid in limbo and millions of people without the support they desperately need.
The U.S. must recommit to its support for sustainable and long-term solutions to food insecurity. This includes:
- Restoring and expanding funding for lifesaving food aid and emergency nutrition programs;
- Reinvesting in agriculture and rural development initiatives that help communities build sustainable food systems;
- Protecting and strengthening access to education, clean water, sanitation, and maternal and child health services, which underpin food security;
- Recommitting to addressing climate-related impacts on crops, ecosystems, and vulnerable communities.
Reinvesting in a food-secure future would save lives by ensuring that everyone has access to adequate nutrition. In a world without hunger, everyone can thrive, not just survive.
We urge you to reverse these devastating cuts, protect lifesaving humanitarian and development assistance, and invest in a world where no one has to go hungry.
