PERMANENT Ceasefire NOW: Protect civilian lives in Israel and Gaza

Right now, famine is occurring in Gaza Governorate, including Gaza City. The U.S. government has a longstanding commitment to prevent famine, but it is fueling one in Gaza right now.

The Trump administration must do everything possible to reach a permanent ceasefire, secure the release of all remaining hostages and illegally detained prisoners, and ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to reach the civilians who need it right now. The U.S. must stop offensive arms transfers to Israel, which has impeded aid and committed violations of international humanitarian law.

Message to the Trump administration and Congress:

Every day, the images and reports from Gaza grow more gut-wrenching.

Israel is starving Palestinians in Gaza. After 22 months of relentless conflict, over half a million people in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions, characterized by starvation, destitution and death. Another 1.07 million people—54 percent of the population—are facing emergency levels of hunger.

Israel’s near total blockade—since March 2—has stopped all but a trickle of humanitarian aid from getting into Gaza. This siege is preventing food, water, and medical equipment from reaching civilians who urgently need these and other essentials to survive.  Inside Gaza, Israeli restrictions make it nearly impossible to move the small amount of aid that does enter Gaza safely and effectively to the people who need it most.

As an Oxfam supporter I urge you to use your power to seek a permanent ceasefire that:

  • Frees all hostages being held captive by Hamas and frees all illegally detained prisoners;
  • Facilitates the sustained delivery of lifesaving assistance, including food, medical supplies, fuel, and the full resumption of electricity and internet to Gaza, in addition to safe passage of humanitarian and medical staff;
  • Allows patients in critical condition to be medically evacuated for urgent care.

A path to peace and justice for all, that includes a fair future for both Palestinian and Israeli people, is the only way forward. We cannot allow the suffering to continue.

Thank you for doing everything in your power to address this humanitarian crisis and stop famine from further enfolding across Gaza.
